How did you come to work for North?
I was living in Berlin at the time, but knew that I wanted to live in Leeds again at some point in my life. I flew back for the interview as I thought a video interview would be a bit weird (little did I know just how much I’d be doing video calls in 2020!) and ended up chatting with John for a couple of hours about everything North: Future plans, favourite beers, what made a good night out. We had a few things in common! I’ve been here for a little over 5 years now and am responsible for the marketing department at North.
What was your first memorable beer experience?
After graduating I worked at the BrewDog Manchester back when BrewDog was pretty small and had less bars than there are in the North Bar family today! I didn’t really know anything about beer before I started, but would stay after shift playing dominoes and working through the taps. I was pretty obsessed with Libertine Black IPA and dark beers in general.
What have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been living on my own and working from home during most of the pandemic so podcasts have been a lifeline. Have you seen the meme ‘how it feels to listen to podcasts’ with a child sat next to a poster of friends chatting and eating ice cream? I have fully become that meme over the past year. Listen to Gimlet Media ‘Reply All – The Case of the Missing Hit’ and forget about covid for 45 minutes.
Where is your favourite spot for a drink?
The best beer in existence is the first beer of a holiday when you’ve not got your bearings yet but you’ve gone to a corner shop and bought a cold 6 pack of lager and a big sharer bag of crisps to eat on the balcony.
