How did you come to work for North?

J

I was an Alfred and Springwell regular looking for work as a designer because my previous role was covering someone’s maternity leave. The stars aligned!

What was your first memorable beer experience?

J

First memory of beer was my dad giving me a bottle of Old Speckled Hen at a party for the millennium. I was 12 and it was disgusting. First proper experience was at a Sam Smiths pub I frequented in Durham. It was nothing special until I started trying things other than the lager. Most “woah thats beer” moment was after climbing Ben Nevis. I was exhausted, famished, and had missed the chance to order food in all the pubs. I had to go to curry house to get food with a well deserved pint. It was Cobra, and it was gone in like 20 seconds. That beer has honestly never tasted that good and probably never will again.

NB

What have you been listening to lately?

J

My tastes tend to lean towards little DIY punk bands that I’ve caught playing around Leeds, but I’m a bit out of date with all that nowadays. Outside of that, notable bands would be Against Me, PUP, Onsind, Pavement… generally most 70s/80s/90s punk bands (as long as the politics are in the right place!)

Where is your fave spot for a drink?

J

Having a few at Brudenell Social Club or Wharf Chambers while watching live music will always be very close to my heart, but there’s nothing like a local beer drank on holiday.

NB

Special shout out! A person, anyone, a local bar! Your fave cafe! Fave superhero! Gregg’s? SHOUT OUT TO ANYONE AND ANYTHING!

J

That’ll be my canine compadre, Seth. Hopefully one day he’ll settle at the pub and not get fed up when I’m exactly 2/3s of the way through my first pint.
