This week we’d like to introduce to you our Lead Brewer and Production Manager Sam! 👋 Above, you can see the rare ‘beardless Sam’, but below you will see the more well known ‘bearded Sam’. Just like Alex, who you last met, Sam is OG North! 🤜🤛 Starting with us way back serving beers at Alfred Bar! He’s just got back from a week long trip in the North of Spain, cooking up beers with some of the best and attending tap takeovers!
Here’s the down low on a few things Sam:
HOW DID YOU COME TO WORK AT NORTH?
Having finished uni, and being unsure about what to do next, I started working in Alfred Bar in Meanwood. Here I developed an interest in the world of beer and wanted to get more involved in the brewery side of things rather than bars. I was lucky enough to get a job as a drayman at Kirkstall Brewery and then a year later, in 2017, North we’re hiring a driver/brewery assistant and it seemed the next obvious step. And, here I am 3 years later!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE NORTH BEER?
I actually loved the grapefruit and wormwood sour collab we did recently with Square Root. Super refreshing and something very unusual to everything else that we do. The soda they made with it really made dry January a lot easier too.
WHAT ARE YOU ENJOYING LISTENING TO AT WORK AT THE MOMENT?
Currently putting a lot of Baxter Dury and Julia Jacklin on but we love a good loud metal sesh at the brewery too. I say we, Seb definitely doesn’t enjoy it… 😂
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO DRINK?
IMPOSSIBLE question to answer! – but I’ll give it a go.
In Leeds it has to be Whitelocks Ale House, great beer, great food and amazing historical pub.
Outside of Leeds, Barton Inn in Somerset, guaranteed to go there every time I go home!
That’s Sam everyone! If you see him about be sure to say hello and if you just so happen to have some Somerset cider on you (for whatever reason…) and you’re up for sharing, he most definitely would be very thankful! 😉
