Good afternoon! How is everyone? Praying for these clouds to shift? – we were promised such nice sunshine! Since we opened Springwell we’ve added a few extra faces to our team which means more people for you to meet!
Today we’re meeting Niamh, one of the smiley happy people making sure you’re kept hydrated when you visit the taproom at Springwell!
How did you come to work for North?
I followed North Bar on Instagram, saw they were hiring and I thought the chance to be part of a new site was really exciting. I was pretty new to Leeds and had been looking for a bar job in hopes of getting to know the city a bit better; I think North is definitely a good way to get involved in Leeds!
What was your first memorable beer experience?
I hadn’t really tried many different beers before going to university but in my second year I started to branch out a bit. I can’t 100% remember the first beer I felt properly ‘whoaed’ by but I think it was a fruity-esk saison from The Shakespeare Pub in Sheffield. After that I started to try more classic IPA’S, DIPA’S and sours and had a stint with Beer 52 before joining North so I’m trying to be a bit more adventurous with my choices.
What have you been listening to lately?
I’ve really been enjoying to Fiona Apple’s 2020 album and Tune Yards latest release. Hot Chip and Dolly Parton are also on a pretty constant repeat in our flat.
I also listened to Tim Key’s audiobook a couple of weeks ago and thought it was funny so I’ve just started listening to his radio show too.
Where is your favorite spot for a drink?
I reckon my answer to this question has the potential to change day to day but right now I’d give lots to be sat with my family in Liverpool. Maybe at The Grapes, Black Lodge or the Botanical garden!
Failing that, I’ll take a sunny festival afternoon, having a nap and listening to some music with a pint.
