It’s Sunday and today we’re meeting the man, the legend, it’s Cal aka The Captain of North Bar aka, North Bar’s GM! Need a drinks recommendation? Cal’s got something for everyone and never ceases to surprise!

Cal is currently on a mission to raise money for the MND Association. He’s going to be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours (that’s 52 miles in 2 days with very little sleep).

How did you come to work for North?

Long time admirer, used to live above Wax Bar Leeds and pop down to North Bar for takeaway beers, at the time Odell Brewing Co had just made it across so we used to smash in their IPA and the old 90 Shilling. When the job came up, I think I spent three days sweating over my application on the way back from an extended holiday.

What was your first memorable beer experience?

I know I should say Orval, and yeah it’s banging but my first big beer experience was probably one Sunday afternoon eating sausage and mash at The Reliance , a young Steve Nuttall recommended a Duchesse de Bourgogne. Drank it all afternoon. There was also the time I had a Westvleteren, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium 12 alongside a De Struise Brouwers Cuvee Delphine. De Struise won hands down!

What have you been listening to lately?

Africa – Toto, Careless Whisper – George Michael, So into you – Ariana Grande ( Tronicbox remix) Trust me it’s a banger.

Where is your fave spot for a drink?

Either, Outside Whitelock’s Ale House with a The Five Points Brewing Company Best and a snakebite (sorry graham) or under Leeds Town Hall with a bottle of tequila and a Bloody Mary.
