Hello! We’re continuing our staff spotlights today with Richard! Richard is our newest member of staff to join the ranks of the warehouse team! – assisting Pete and Jamie in stacking up those pallets nicely and sending them out to all our trade customers!

How did you come to work for North?

I worked for a big high street company In warehousing/distribution for about 15 years and never really enjoyed it, After 3 months being furloughed and not missing my job one bit, I decided I was in need of a change and working in a brewery was at the top of my list of places I’d like to work. I saw the job advertised on Norths Instagram, applied for it never thinking I’d hear anything, and here I am!

What was your first memorable beer experience?

I didn’t really drink beer until my late 20s until a bar opened in my hometown Doncaster called Cask Corner Dive Bar. It used to be a charity shop and they still had all the stuff that was left behind hanging from the ceiling (you can’t beat a pint with an old ironing board hanging above your head) as well as coffin in the window full of beer taps from all the big generic beer brands, I hadn’t heard of any of the beers that they sold and it was great trying all the different styles. The first beer I remember tasting and been blown away by was Thornbridge Brewery Jaipur probably in the Sheffield Tap, I still love it and always get a pint whenever I see it, it’s still very much a standout beer.

What have you been listening to lately?

I’m a big music fan and I’ve been digging out some old albums after discovering that both me and Pete have a love for some of the same bands. So McLusky do Dallas and the first The Bronx album have been on in the car a lot recently. I’ve also become a little obsessed with Neil Young – Reprise Records and Courtney Barnett over the last year or so. We usually have BBC Radio 6 Music on in the warehouse you can’t beat a bit of The Real Shaun Keaveny in the afternoon.

Where’s your favourite spot for a drink?

2020 was the first time in years I haven’t visited Germany at Christmas so any dingy smokey bar in Hamburg will do, David Quelle just off the Reeperbahn is a particular favourite of mine. If I’m out in Chesterfield I’ll be in The Market Pub Chesterfield probably for the quiz night and free chip butties. Society Coffee Shop & Bar is great too, they combine two of my favourite things, beer and doughnuts! I’m looking forward to getting the chance to come over to Leeds and get a beer in one of Norths bars, especially Springwell – North Brewing Co when we’re finally allowed to open.

Thanks for reading everyone! Stay safe and take care!
