North was founded by John Gyngell and Christian Townsley, the brains behind legendary Leeds beer venue North Bar, which opened in 1997; known as “the first craft beer bar in Britain”. North Bar influenced a new wave of modern beer bars and breweries across the country, including their own, with many citing the bar as one of the driving forces and influences behind the craft beer revolution in the UK. The North family has now extended, to multiple sites across Leeds and one in Harrogate as well as 2 breweries!

Our showcase taproom opened in November 2108 and boasts 24 taps that showcase the amazing beer brewed by North Brewing Co as well as a rotating selection of guest and takeaway beers and in-house kitchen run by Little Bao Boy.

You’ll need to be experienced in the world of hospitality, well organised, driven, creative, with strong communication and leadership qualities, plus a natural ability to get the best out of a team and sell great drinks!

As Assistant Manager you’ll be workign alongside the General Manager and will be responsible for the management of the taproom, it’s team and organising and hosting events.

The management team are responsible for running a clean, profitable, welcoming bar with great drinks, happy team members and repeat customers. Below is a non-exhaustive list of the task associated with this role:

  • Play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the venue, leading shifts and building a happy and motivated team.
  • Table service is key to what we do at North – at Springwell you will be managing staff across floor and bar shifts, ensuring that table service is offered at all times.
  • Assisting the General Manager with training your team – service, product knowledge, and accurate financial procedures are all key to the success of this venue.
  • Assisting the General Manager with business development for your venue, and come up with strategies for driving sales.
  • Locking up the venue.
  • Cashing up and reporting sales to the wider HQ team.
  • Stock management including cellar management.
  • Supporting the General Manager with ordering stock.
  • Developing a strong working relationship with our in house street food partner, Little Bao Boy.
  • Posting to social media regularly
  • Organising, promoting and running in house events
  • Building relationships with the other North venue managers.

Beer knowledge is great but it’s not a key skill – we can teach you to tell your hops from your malts! Finding the right person for the role is key for us.

We are looking for the following skills:

  • Personal license holder
  • Management skills and experience
  • Working knowledge of using social media platforms
  • Computer literate including at least a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Some beer knowledge (not essential – full beer training is provided)
  • Some wine and spirits knowledge
  • A basic understanding of GP, management accounts / P&Ls, stock etc
  • Health and safety knowledge
